Amity is the only school in Abu Dhabi to have its own Watersports Academy, which is fully recognised by the Royal Yachting Association.
We have a fantastic team of RYA-certified instructors who provide amazing experiential learning opportunities for our students and the wider Amity community:
- Sailing
- Kayaking
- Paddle-boarding
- Multi-activity
Benefits of Sailing and Water Sports
Sailing and paddle sports encourage the development of important life skills that will stay with our students long after their time at Amity, such as:
- Teamwork and communication
- Responsibility and independence
- Confidence and determination
- Resilience and empathy
- Problem-solving
Academic Water Sports
Sailing and paddle sports are not only offered as part of our vast co-curricular programme but also built into the academic timetable. Students from Year 3 and above have the opportunity to enjoy safe and fun lessons where they learn about water safety and acquire the basic skills of sailing and paddle sports.
By the time our students reach Secondary School, they are able to link the knowledge acquired on the water to relevant subjects and topics learnt in the classroom. Water sports offer links to a variety of subjects taken in school, from physical education to geography, biology and physics.
At the end of the academic watersports sessions, students are given the opportunity to participate in a friendly competition within their year group. These are held during the weekend and parents are invited to join.
Secondary pupils also have the opportunity to:
- Work towards GCSE Sailing and Kayaking in Year 10 and Year 11.
- Join activities related to the Duke of Edinburgh Award
- Sign up for the Assistant Instructor Training Course
Co-Curricular Water sports
Water-sport activities are also provided as part of our rich co-curricular programme. Our Water-sports CCAs allow children to work towards internationally recognised RYA qualifications in Sailing, from complete beginners up to advanced, competent sailors. Upon completion of a sailing CCA, pupils have the opportunity to compete against other schools in an inter-school regatta, which is hosted here at Amity. Alongside our sailing CCA programme, we deliver paddle sports activities as well as multi-activity sessions for students wanting to try a bit of everything we have on offer.
Community activities
As part of our efforts to strengthen relationships within our community, our fantastic instructors organise fun activities which are open to the whole Amity Community. Parents and teachers are able to sign up to a variety of events, which include training sessions, ladies' clubs, and family activity days and trips.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions regarding the sailing and water sports provision here at Amity, we can be reached via email on [email protected] or (02) 503 9000.
