Nikki Upsall - Deputy Head of Secondary

Nikki joins the team from Nord Anglia's award winning  British School of Bejing. He brings a wealth of leadership expereince to Amit, as well as being a passionate Mathematics teacher.

Nikki joins the Senior team from Nord Anglia’s award winning British School of Bejing. He brings a wealth of senior leadership experience, and will work alongside the Head of Secondary, primarily focussed on ensuring there are high standards of curricular teaching and learning provision within the Secondary School ,through an analytical understanding of how pupils learn, of the features of successful classroom practice, and curriculum design. As a mentor for many of the teaching staff, he will be responsible for supporting the development of teaching skills, subject knowledge, and for establishing a culture of mutual observation and sharing of best practice. He will be helping particularly with the preparation of pupils for GCSEs at Key Stage 4 and the school preparation for sixth form teaching in two years’ time. Nikki is a passionate Mathematics teacher and he will continue to teach in the Secondary School alongside his other responsibilities.

Alpa Dabasia - Director of Studies

Alpa, who has been with Amity for almost two years, will be moving from her current role as a teacher of Computing to the position of Director of Studies. She will continue to teach Computing in the Secondary School and will also be taking on responsibility for our new Business Studies Department.

Alpa, who has been with Amity for almost two years, will be moving from her current role as a teacher of Computing to the position of Director of Studies. In this new role, Alpa will be repsonsible for supporting and advising the Heads of School and the Senior Leadership Team on whole school curriculum evaluation, staff deployment, timetable construction, and the Secondary Options process in Year  9 and Year 11. She will also be working closely with the School’s Administration and Support Departments in order to embed more efficient use of our Management Information Systems, an essential requirement in a fast growing school. She will continue to teach Computing in the Secondary School and will also be taking on responsibility for our new Business Studies Department.

Jonathan joins Amity as our new Director of Sport, from St George’s International School, Switzerland. Jonathan brings a wealth of experience gained from Europe and the UAE, where he has been integral to the leadership of school’s with outstanding, competitive sports provision. He will be responsible for the strategic implementation of our sports including our new aquatics programme. He will ensure that Amity’s unparalleled sports facilities are used to full effect, not only to promote increased participation, but also sporting excellence. In order to achieve this, he will have a particular remit for the establishment of further opportunities for Amity teams to compete in inter-school and international competitions. Jonathan will also be the lead teacher of our GCSE PE course for our Secondary students.

Jennifer Connell - Assistant Head Secondary (Year 9 to Year 11)

Jennifer joined our Secondary School in 2018 and has over 15 years’ experience teaching in outstanding independent schools in the UK and UAE. This coming academic year, she takes on the responsibility of Assistant Head (Year 9 to Year 11) in addition to her continued teaching role within the English Department.

Jennifer joined our Secondary School in 2018 and has over 15 years’ experience teaching in outstanding independent schools in the UK and UAE. This coming academic year, she takes on the responsibility of Assistant Head (Year 9 to Year 11) in addition to her continued teaching role within the English Department. This is a critical role as Amity opens Year 10 and students begin working for their first set of public examinations. Jennifer will also be taking on responsibility for Scholarship and Academic Enrichment. Working with the Heads of Department, the Co-Curricular team and external providers, she will have a particular focus on establishing premium provision for our more able learners, growing opportunities for stretch and challenge both within and beyond the curriculum through intra-school activities, competition and inter-school collaboration. She will also be responsible for advising Year 9 students and parents with regards the GCSE options process and for establishing our new Careers and Higher Education programme.

Elizabeth joined Amity in 2015 bringing 16 years of experience gained in the Pastoral care of students both in the UK and UAE. With a background in Law, Psychology and Counselling complementing her academic history, she becomes the Assistant Head of Secondary (Year 7 and 8).

Elizabeth joined Amity in 2015 bringing 16 years of experience gained in the Pastoral care of students both in the UK and UAE. This combined with her background in Law, Psychology and Counselling makes her eminently fit to take on the role of Assistant Head of Secondary (Year 7 and 8). Elizabeth will manage the transition and induction of most of the new pupils to the Secondary School, ensuring that they feel settled and safe as they make the move from our Primary School. Working closely with the School Counsellors and Jennifer Connell, she will ensure that the Secondary School is a safe, calm, well-ordered and  all students demonstrate exemplary behaviour. Together with her wider roles as the safeguarding lead and teacher of Moral Education, she will also ensure consistent pastoral provision and students well-being across the school. Elizabeth will also be lead teacher of our new Psychology department.

Scott joined Amity last year and for this coming academic year, will take on responsibility for the strategy, organization and management of our extensive, co-curricular programme that has become such a iconic strength of the education provision at Amity. Over the coming years, Amity will continue to advance and broaden the creative and performing arts, sports and academic clubs and societies and in doing so, continue to encourage physical, creative and academic ambition. Working with the House Tutors, Scott will ensure that our students are participating and meeting their co-curricular targets and, supported our new Design and Technology team, will introduce the International Award and the new Amity Diploma (details to follow in the new Academic Year). A keen sportsman, he will also continue in his role as a member of our expanded PE department.

Lynne is already known to many of you having been with Amity since 2016. Lynne has worked both internationally and in the UK, and brings with her over 25 years of experience in Primary education. She is a highly qualified specialist in Inclusion and a qualified teacher of pupils with dyslexia. In addition to her responsibility for the academic provision within Primary, Lynne will lead on all Inclusion and Pastoral aspects including acting as Child Protection Officer. She will deputise for Jo when Jo is off site.
